EULAKES is a scientific project, financed by the European Union - from 2010 to 2013 - throughout Central Europe Programme.
It comes out from the need to find a match point between the recent scientific discoveries about lakes water quality and the territorial management of them.
The synergy between researchers, local authorities and territorial management bodies is the base of this project and it is also its key element. To this aspect is associated the need to deal with the rising problems within an European comparison in order to give an international value to the scientific results and to the best practices apply to the lake Governance.
European lakes in fact cope with several common problems; this european project regroup four important lakes for the first time: Lake Garda (IT), Lake Balaton (H), Lake Neusiedl (AT), Lake Charzykowskie (PL).
The project will deal with the following themes:
the water pollution and its levels regulation;
the effects produced by climate change;
the sustainable management of the costs.
to evaluate lakes in all: starting from the monitoring systems already existing and developing new approaches for evaluating the water quality;
to introduce chiefly the environmental problems which European lakes deal with, such as the environmental weakness and its associated risks – in short term and in long term;
to put the basis for a first model of international and environmental Governance about lakes, involving local communities and promoting the commitment of the public bodies on this theme.
